ABOUT ME

Naomi Pearson, Dyslexia Assessor and Specialist Teacher

I have extensive experience and training to support the needs of children with specific learning difficulties. As a qualified teacher with many years' experience in both the private and state sector, I hold a Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Dyslexia/SpLDs. I am registered on the PATOSS website as an accredited assessor with an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC).

I strongly believe in giving every child the best possible opportunities to thrive at school and reduce the barriers to learning.

MY APPROACH

Fun, Positive and Calm

Understandably, some children may feel nervous about what to expect during the assessment, however, most children find the activities to be fun and varied. I value your child's views and opinions and ensure that they feel positive about their individual strengths and interests.

Your child will have lots of opportunity to express how they approach the different tasks, what they find easy or hard and any strategies that they use to support their learning.

My Story

I am an enthusiastic and hard-working specialist teacher and assessor with extensive experience of KS1 and KS2 classroom teaching and tutoring across Key Stages 1-3, both in the independent and state sector. Whilst working within the Learning Enrichment team at a large prep school in London, I planned individually tailored lessons for pupils with specific learning difficulties, particularly dyslexia, setting targets and preparing multi-sensory lessons in order to support pupils who often found it hard to learn in a more traditional, fast paced way. I found this role extremely rewarding, particularly when I could see that the pupils were making progress through the extra support they were given.

After the pandemic, I worked in a London state school, supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis. Many of these pupils had a dyslexia diagnosis and others were awaiting assessment. Individualised targets taught in a cumulative and multi-sensory way, supported these children, and raised their attainment; this extra support enabled them to access the curriculum at a pace suitable for them and to fill the gaps in their learning.

After having my own children I decided to embark on new and exciting training in order to be able to assess and diagnose children and young adults with dyslexia. I could see the difference this diagnosis could make to their lives; they were able to finally understand the reason for their difficulties and I could make specific and targeted recommendations to support them at school and home. I find this role to be extremely rewarding and I continue to tutor dyslexic children on a one-to-one basis alongside the assessing.
